The 5 fundamental rules to follow when writing briefs for your Membro. Get consistently better output with clear, structured instructions.
How to Write a Brief for Your Membro: 5 Golden Rules
No matter how capable your Membros are, they can't produce their best output without a good brief. Just as context and clarity matter when assigning tasks to a human colleague, the same is true here.
Here are the 5 rules that will get you maximum output from your Membros:
1. Always Include Context
❌ Weak brief: "Write a LinkedIn post."
✅ Strong brief: "Write a LinkedIn post for a B2B SaaS startup. Target audience: operations managers. Tone: authoritative but warm. Goal: lead generation. CTA: demo request."
The richer the context, the more on-target the output.
2. Specify the Output Format
Be clear about what you're expecting:
- "Give me 3 different headline options"
- "Bullet-point list"
- "Max 280 characters, for Twitter"
- "Formal English"
3. Create a "Don't Do" List
Specifying what you don't want to see is just as important as specifying what you do:
"No clichés. Don't use words like 'synergy', 'disruptive', or 'game-changer'."
4. Give a Reference Example
If you have an example you like, share it:
"I'd like something similar in tone and structure to this tweet: [link]"
5. Shape the First Output With Feedback
The first draft is rarely perfect — and that's normal. Keep your feedback specific:
❌ "I don't like it, rewrite." ✅ "The second paragraph is too technical. Use more conversational language. The rest is good."
Once brief-writing becomes a habit, you'll be surprised how quickly your Membros 'calibrate' to your style.
